Getting started

Universal Asset Library (UAL) has two editions. Pick the one that matches your DCC.

The two editions

EditionWhere it livesLicense
BlenderView3D → Sidebar (N) → UALGPL-3.0-or-later
HoudiniDockable panel + shelf tab Asset LibraryProprietary / commercial

Both browse local library folders, search online sources, save downloads into your library, and import meshes, materials, and HDRIs.

First 10 minutes

  1. Install your edition — Blender install or Houdini install
  2. Add at least one library folder (permanent assets)
  3. Open the panel and browse Library
  4. Optional: enable online access, search a free source (e.g. Poly Haven), then Save to Library
  5. Import one asset into your scene

Cache vs library (important)

UAL uses two different folders:

  • Cache — temporary download/staging and thumbnails. Safe to clear.
  • Library — your permanent asset folders. Do not point cache and library at the same place.

If Health Check warns about paths, fix them before downloading more assets.
